Our BSc in Economics is oriented towards the training of economists with leadership skills, both in thought and in action, in a globalised world in constant change. Our programme is distinguished by rigour and realism in economic analysis. We emphasise the values of individual autonomy and teamwork, and encourage both ethical responsibility and critical thinking.

This Bachelor's degree that is grounded in the fundamental areas of economic studies: Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.
Inevitably, these are complemented and enriched by specific areas such as International Economics, Environmental Economics, Public Finance, Monetary and Financial Economics, Development Policies, Competitiveness and Cohesion, Labour and Human Resources Economics, Innovation and Globalisation, among others.
Besides the compulsory units, a relevant range of optional course units is also available, which benefit from applied and multidisciplinary approaches based on Management Sciences, Social Sciences and Quantitative Methods.
These optional curricular units are augmented by the high-quality scientific research that is developed by our faculty members in both national and international research centres, often in the context of public policy and productive strategy challenges.
The pedagogical practices we adopt aim at developing personal and transversal skills. The purpose is to prepare future graduates for full integration into the labour market. Particular attention is given to the abilities to design and implement projects in teams, to carry out individual reflection and research, to solve problems and deal with complex situations, to communicate orally and in writing, to establish networks of contacts and to develop international sensitivity.
In an economic context, it is equally important to mention the need to develop language skills. For this reason, in addition to providing teaching materials and bibliographical references essentially in English, the course also includes certain curricular units, both compulsory and optional, taught in this language.
In Portugal, the International Student Statute grants foreign students (not belonging to the European Union) a specific number of places and access conditions. This statute enables direct application to undergraduate courses.

Specialization in Capital Markets and Securities Operations (Partnership with BNP Paribas)
Starting in the academic year 2020/21, an opportunity has arisen in three Iscte degrees:
> Management;
> Economics;
> Finance and Accounting.
The final year students of these courses will be able to specialize in Capital Markets and Securities Operations.
This new specialization works in partnership with BNP Paribas. It presupposes a positive result in three specific curricular units: Financial Markets Operations, Investments, and Asset Management. Once they have completed the subjects, students applying to BNP Paribas will be admitted in a special and simplified recruitment process, without the need to take the usual pre-selection tests applied to all applicants.
Teacher-Student Proximity
The close atmosphere between students and faculty is evident. It is embodied in collegial practices of managing the learning experience, in the intense support given to the economics students nucleus (NAE), in the existence of a weekly timetable to attend to students, in the provision of permanent contact via e-mail, and in close liaison with former students throughout their professional lives.
With the exception of some first-year subjects, all courses are organised in theoretical-practical classes. The aim is to increase the contact of each professor with their students and ensuring that each class has a number of students that favours the best possible learning experience.
Thematic Workshops
Iscte Business School promotes a wide range of extra-curricular activities, preparing its students for the job market.
In addition, some thematic workshops and trainings are promoted throughout the academic year. Some examples are sessions to build CVs and Cover Letters, preparation sessions for Interviews, Psychotechnical Tests, Group Dynamics, among other initiatives.
Students are informed in advance about the dates of the activities.
