Iscte participated again on UI GreenMetric, a ranking that evaluates the world's most sustainable universities, regarding their environmental performance in 2019.
On this year's edition, Iscte was placed on the first 400 universities, in a total of 911 institutions from 84 countries. Iscte is also one of the best universities in the world from the group of institutions that are located on city centers: it achieved the 40th position within a total of 158 universities.
Iscte also stood out on the category "Education & Research" due to the strong presence of sustainability on teaching, events and initatiatives. At the campus level, it also stood out in the area of "Waste Management" (existence of recycling programs and reduction in the use of plastic) and in the "Transport and Mobility" indicator, for facilitated access and encouragement on the use of sustainable means of transport.
The participation in this ranking is part of the implementation of Iscte's sustainability policy. During 2019, the tools for monitoring the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals at the level of Education and Research were reinforced, with the extension to the classification of master's dissertations. The "People" dimension action plan was also developed in the context of the sustainability policy. Iscte also guaranteed, in 2019, the renewal of the campus environmental certification by the ISO14001 standard, an international recognition attributed only to the institutions that guarantee the compliance and the implementation of the best environmental practices.
