Iscte Business School Sustainability Summit 2023

On 25 and 26 October 2023, the first edition of the Iscte Business School Sustainability Summit took place, an event co-organised by Iscte Business School, Iscte Sustainability and the student groups of Management (NEG), Marketing (NAMI), Economics (NAE), Data Science (NED), Industrial Management and Logistics (NAGIL) and Finance and Accounting (NEFC), Economics (NAE), Data Science (NED), Industrial Management and Logistics (NAGIL), Human Resources (NERH) and Finance and Accounting (NEFC), together with the Iscte Trading & Investment Club (ITIC) and Iscte Junior Consulting (IJC) organisations.

The central theme of this edition was "Towards a Sustainable Generation: Artificial Intelligence and Climate Change"

The event opened with a presentation by Professor Catarina Roseta Palma on "Decarbonising". On the second day, Professor João Guerreiro debated the ethical challenges of Artificial Intelligence. The event brought together guests representing Planetiers, Nestlé, Skizo, Prime Group and EY for the event's two roundtables: Climate Change and AI.

During the event there was a roundtable discussion with influencers Mel Barros, Salomé Santos, Beatriz Beles and Mariana Silva on how to promote a more sustainable and conscious lifestyle. There was also a sewing workshop, in which participants had the opportunity to give new life to forgotten items of clothing in their wardrobes. There was also the Dilemmas workshop, which promoted a debate between participants on how to make certain Human Resources practices more sustainable.

Planetiers was also present at a special session to present the Planetiers World Gathering (PWG), the 3rd edition of which took place in Aveiro. Planetiers showed the impact and legacy of this great event, as well as raising awareness among the academic community to take part in the PWG Young Leaders initiative, which seeks to develop a solid partnership between future leaders and today's sustainable innovations.

Sociedade Ponto Verde (SPV) was present at a session that addressed key issues relating to sustainability and recycling. In addition, we jointly organised the SPV Lounge, an exclusive space for students and event participants to socialise during their breaks, with poufs and cushions in the atrium of building 2. The first day of the session was also attended by backpackers who were on campus with the aim of encouraging the collection and separation of packaging waste and drawing the attention of the entire academic community to environmental sustainability. Sociedade Ponto Verde took a series of initiatives to Iscte to encourage students, teachers and staff to recycle more and better. Students were also challenged to take part in a recycling quiz with the chance to win bags for sorting waste.
