BRU-Iscte Maintains Excellent Rating in FCT Evaluation

BRU-Iscte – Business Research Unit has once again been rated as "Excellent" in the most recent evaluation of Research and Development Units by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

This rating confirms the high scientific quality of the research conducted at BRU-Iscte, as well as its national and international impact in the field of management and economics. The "Excellent" classification was awarded following a rigorous evaluation process involving international panels of experts, and it reinforces BRU-Iscte's position as one of the leading research units in Portugal.

BRU-Iscte is a multidisciplinary research center at Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon, covering a wide range of areas within the business world. The unit conducts research in the fields of Management, Economics, Finance, Human Resources, and Data Analytics, promoting a strong connection between high-quality scientific research and business practice.

BRU hosts four internationally-oriented doctoral programs – in Management, Applied Business Management, Finance, and Economics – and brings together researchers of various nationalities, whose work is published in top international scientific journals.

In addition to BRU-Iscte, six other research units at Iscte were also rated as "Excellent" in the same evaluation:

  • Centre for International Studies (CEI-Iscte)
  • Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-Iscte)
  • Centre for Social Research and Intervention (CIS-Iscte)
  • Research Centre on Socioeconomic Change and the Territory (Dinâmia’CET-Iscte)
  • Network Centre for Research in Anthropology (CRIA)
  • Institute of Telecommunications (IT)

This outcome represents a significant advancement for five of Iscte’s research centers, which saw their classification upgraded from "Very Good" to "Excellent": CEI-Iscte, CIES-Iscte, Dinâmia’CET-Iscte, CRIA, and IT. Meanwhile, BRU-Iscte and CIS-Iscte maintained their "Excellent" rating, already achieved in the previous evaluation.

The FCT evaluation was based on scientific and technological activities carried out between January 1, 2018, and December 31, 2023, as well as the proposed objectives, strategies, activity plan, and organizational model for the period from 2025 to 2029. The process involved more than 315 international reviewers, organized into 29 disciplinary panels, from academic and scientific institutions across 35 countries.

This recognition strengthens Iscte’s commitment to research excellence and its position as a leading national and international research university.
