The competition took place in Ljubljana, Slovenia, between 8 and 10 November, and gathered participants from Germany, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Estonia, France, Hungary, Luxembourg, Serbia and Portugal.
Representing Iscte were Yusrea Valiyakath, an undergraduate student in Management, and Tiago Durão Godinho, an alumnus of the Management degree, accompanied by Professor Álvaro Dias. The team stood out for its ethical reasoning, analytical rigour and creativity in addressing complex case studies.
During the semi-finals, the debates focused on highly topical issues, including:
-
“To what extent should AI be used to organise work processes?”
-
“AI vs. Human Drivers: The moral challenges of autonomous transportation.”
These themes required participants to critically assess the ethical, social and technological implications of artificial intelligence in everyday life, balancing innovation with responsibility.
The European Ethics Bowl promotes applied ethics and critical thinking by engaging students from diverse academic backgrounds in structured, collaborative debate. The achievement of Iscte Business School’s team highlights the quality of its teaching and the strong ethical foundation it instils in its students, contributing to Portugal’s growing recognition on the international academic stage.
