Maria João Cortinhal | Dean
Maria João Cortinhal



Associate Professor in the Department of Quantitative Methods for Management and Economics at Iscte, holding various positions in academic management, including coordinator of the 3rd year of the Bachelor's degree in Management, elected member of the Scientific Council and General Council, department director, and currently director of the Iscte Business School, all at Iscte.

Her research interests focus on Combinatorial Optimization Problems, with a special emphasis on the Design of Logistics Networks and Sectorization and Route Design, using metaheuristics. She has participated as a researcher in research projects funded by FCT and in some national scope research studies, notably in the definition of a logistic model for the supply of forest biomass to power plants, and in the definition of a model for expanding the national network of Peace Courts.

Ana Lucia Henriques Martins | Vice-Dean
Ana Lucia Martins


Ana Lúcia Martins is an Associate Professor at Iscte and an integrated researcher at BRU-Iscte (Business Research Unt). She holds a PhD in Management, with a specialization in Operations Management and Technology, and an MSc in Management, with a specialization in Strategy. She currently serves as Iscte Business School Vice-dean for Teaching and Innovation, and as Vice-President of Iscte's Pedagogical Council. She also serves as director of the Master in Humanitarian Action, along with a director from the School of Sociology and Public Policy, a program jointly offered by both schools, and in the past served as director of the bachelor's degree in Industrial Management and Logistics. Ana teaches Operations Management, Logistics Management, Service Operations Management, and Supply Chain Management. Ana authored more than 85 scientific articles. Ana publishes in scientific journals such as the International Journal of Logistics Management, International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management, and Public Money and Management, among others. She has authored book chapters in logistics management and lean management in the justice systems. Her current main research topics are operations management in humanitarian settings, logistics management, supply chain management, and lean management in the services area, mainly in judicial and healthcare systems.

Inna Paiva | Vice Dean
Inna Paiva


Inna Paiva (PhD) is Assistant Professor in the Instituto Univeritário de Lisboa (Iscte).   She has experience in teaching in master’s programmes and programmes for executive education, and engages with courses related to financial accounting, business reporting and public accounting.    She also supervises master’s students’ dissertations and has made various presentations in in international scientific conferences and authored papers and book chapters. For several years, she was the director of the Master’s in Accounting and Taxation and the Bachelor’s Degree Course Accounting, Taxation and Auditing in the Universidade Lusófona.   Her research interests lie in the implementation of  International Financial Reporting Standards, accounting quality and family firms.  She has published her research in book chapters and in journals such as the Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal, the  Spanish Journal of Finance and Accounting, the Review of Accounting and Finance. She has also published a text book:  Contabilidade Pública -  As Novas Demonstrações para Relato em Sistema de Normalização Contabilística para as Administrações Públicas/  Public Accounting - The New Report Statements in the Accounting Normalization System for Public Administration   and  she is the author of practical case studies in the text book Fundamentos de Contabilidade Financeira: teoria e casos/  Foundations of Financial Accounting: theory and case studies.

Ana Simaens | Associate Dean
Ana Simaens


With a Ph.D. in Management from Tilburg University in the Netherlands, Ana teaches at the Iscte Business School on topics related to Strategic Management and Sustainability, Ethics, and Social Responsibility. She currently serves as the Associate Dean for Engagement and Impact at the Iscte Business School.

As an integrated researcher in the Business Research Unit (BRU-Iscte), her work has been featured in various publications, including the Journal of Business Ethics and Public Management Review. She has also served as an Associate editor of the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education and as a Topic editor for Sustainability.

Ana is also collaborating as a Guardian of the GRLI Council (Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative), Head of Programmatic Work at the PRME Chapter Iberia, and she serves as the Quality and Sustainability Interlocutor for the Iscte Business School. In the past, Ana was the Deputy Director of the Department of Marketing, Operations, and General Management, a member of the Scientific Committee of BRU-Iscte, and coordinator of the Prosperity dimension of Sustainability at Iscte. She also contributed as an expert in the ISO TC323 on Circular Economy.

Furthermore, Ana has supplemented her academic training with various professional qualifications, including the GRI Certified Training Program, the Sustainable Business Strategy from Harvard Business School Online, and certifications such as Advanced Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) Professional, Certified LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Facilitator, and Certified Pro.Play® Facilitator.

Renato Pereira | Associate Dean
Renato Pereira


Renato Pereira, holding a postdoctoral degree in Management and two doctorates, serves as the Deputy Director for Internationalization and Research at the School of Management of Iscte-IUL.

He specializes in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, International Management, and Economic Development in Sub-Saharan Africa.

As a former resident-student of the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the private foundation responsible for managing the international campus of the French capital, elected by a representative college of 5,000+ voters from 150+ nationalities.

He has worked in various companies in the information and communication technology cluster, including Outsystems, one of the first three Portuguese unicorns.

As an Administrator at Inteli - Innovation Intelligence - Innovation Center, he was part of the coordination structure of the Mobi.E consortium, responsible for the development of the world's first national network for electric vehicle charging, and the Board of Directors of SGORME - Electric Mobility Network Operations Management Company, S.A.

For thirteen consecutive years, he served as a Member of the Fiscal Council of Taguspark, S.A., the management company of one of the largest and most relevant science and technology parks in the country.

He served as Assistant to the Minister of Public Works, Transport, and Communications of the XVII and XVIII Constitutional Governments.

Currently, he directs the Master's program in International Management at the School of Management of Iscte. Previously, he directed the Executive Master's program in Innovation Management at Iscte Executive Education, as well as several curricular units of the Master's programs at the Iscte Business School, the Master's program in African Studies, and the Doctoral program in African Studies.

As an Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, he coordinated the Doctorate in Business Economics, the Geoeconomics Seminar of the Doctorate in International Relations, the Master's program in Business Management, and the Bachelor's program in Management, in addition to several curricular units of the three university cycles.

His article "Entrepreneurship role on dynamic capabilities: A longitudinal study on Brazilian and Portuguese firms," co-authored, was nominated for the Best Paper Prize at the Special Conference of the Strategic Management Society in 2011.

His article "Resilient employees are creative employees, when the workplace forces them to be," co-authored, was awarded the Tudor Rickards and Susan Moger Creativity and Innovation Management Best Paper Award for the year 2019.

He has supervised 5 postdoctoral researchers, 18 doctoral students, and 179 master's students.

He has extensive international academic experience, having been a Visiting Professor and/or Researcher at universities in Angola, Brazil, Czech Republic, United Arab Emirates, Slovenia, Spain, France, Hungary, India, Mozambique, Peru, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Russia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.
