Director(s) message

Quality health is a decisive factor for the well-being and development of contemporary societies. The UN recognizes this reality by proposing to "guarantee a healthy life and promote the well-being for all" as one of the objectives of sustainable development of the 2030 agenda.

The World Health Organization estimates that up to 40% of all health expenditures are wasted due to inefficiency, while of the 421 million annual hospitalizations occurring in the world, 10% result in some type of harm for the patient. In this context, the effective management of health services will make all the difference.

Integrated in Iscte Business School, the Master in Health Services Management is a program designed to equip students with the necessary skills to create systems capable of providing services that improve or maintain the health of individuals; deserve the confidence of the people; adapt to the technological and demographic changes that occur in society.

The full-time Master of Science in Health Services Management provides general management knowledge to health care organizations applying to undergraduates in health or management, with little or no professional experience. It is, therefore, an advanced syllabus suitable for students pursuing a management career in health service organizations.

Why choose the Master of Health Services Management?

This syllabus provides a structuring learning experience for those aspiring to a management career in a key area for human development such as health

Program content and methods are aligned with international reference practices, so that students are challenged to master basic management knowledge and the latest knowledge applied to health management

As a full-time program, the required workload is an excellent preparation for both professional practice and the creation of individual lifelong learning strategies

In the second year students will be involved in a professional internship to encourage integration into real environments and to facilitate contact with potential employers

The program's faculty combines extensive research experience with extensive professional experience, which allows a good portion of the classes to reveal an appropriate balance between theory and practice

Students will be part of an academic community with close contact between teachers and students, facilitating teamwork and sharing ideas

Students may choose to do a dissertation or project work applied to the reality of a health service, according to their motivations and the opportunities for implementation that may arise

In addition to preparing students for a career in health care management, this program also provides the foundation for those who wish to pursue their doctoral studies
