MyCareforce: an Alumnus Startup That Will Revolutionize Nursing

With the goal of reducing costs and increasing job opportunities, the startup MyCareforce connects nurses to shifts in a simple and flexible way. In just two months, the company conquered the Spanish fund Think Bigger Capital, and in three months the incubator StartUp Lisboa.

MyCareforce, a startup created by João Hugo Silva - an alumnus of the double master programme in Management and Finance at Iscte Business School and KEDGE - was included in the list of startups selected for the Demium incubator acceleration program, and more recently, the StartUp Lisboa incubator.

With a very simple premise - “the traditional model for hiring nurses is old school” - MyCareforce has a business model that will change the lives of many institutions and nurses in Portugal. "Challenging the status quo, we propose to make the hiring of nurses more flexible, both for health professionals and for institutions, whether hospitals, clinics or homes. Through a digital platform, both can register and quickly respond to the market needs", says João Hugo Silva, congratulated by Iscte Business School with the “Top Master Student” award in the academic year 2018-2019. "On the one hand, institutions quickly reinforce their teams without worrying about long-term hiring or complex and time-consuming processes with traditional agencies. On the other hand, nurses apply and are accepted in shifts at these institutions in a matter of minutes, giving them greater control and freedom of choice over where and when they want to work ".

This innovative idea, which is so necessary in the current context, is led by João Hugo Silva, Co-Founder and COO of MyCareforce and Pedro Cruz Morais, Co-Founder and CEO of MyCareforce. In two months, they have drawn the attention of the Spanish fund Think Bigger Capital, which has already invested € 100,000 in the startup, with expectations of quadrupling the investment in due time. In three months, they were also selected for the Startup Incubation Program developed by StartUp Lisboa, an incubator created thanks to the Participatory Budget of Lisbon, an initiative of the Lisbon City Council. With this support, they will have six months of incubation and exclusive contact with renowned resources and personalities in various markets. The challenge: continuing the work already developed and solidifying the network of registered institutions and health professionals, creating a greater dynamic in the platform.
