Summer Schools Abroad are an excellent opportunity to get to know:

  1. new countries
  2. other people and cultures
  3. different educational systems
  4. practice the English language
  5. learn other languages
  6. and... obtain credits!

    The summer universities last from 3 to 4 weeks. In past years, they have taken place in countries such as: Czech Republic (Prague), France (Bordeaux), Korea (Seoul), Slovenia, Peru, Russia (St. Petersburg), Thailand.

    Each programme includes an academic component, with 3 to 5 hours per day. Furthermore, participants will have the chance to participate in many other cultural and social activities. 

    The academic programme usually includes classes dedicated to the culture and history of the country/region in addition to other classes in the field of management.

    Information Sessions

    If you are interested to know more about the Summer School Abroad programme we will have two information sessions, at the campus, during the coming week:

    • November 10th (Wednesday) at 10:00, Room AA3.25 (Building Ala Autónoma, 3rd floor)
    • November 10th (Wednesday) at 16:30, Room AA3.28 (Building Ala Autónoma, 3rd floor)

    Registration in not compulsory but, in order for you to secure your place in the auditorium you should fill this form.

    After filling the registration form, you will receive a confirmation email with the local of the session.

    Programmes and dates for 2022

    Please note that the destinations below will take place depending on the evolution of the situation regarding COVID-19.

    The application process has two phases:
    1st Phase - until January 30th
    2nd Phase – after January 30th at any time in case there are vacant places

    Korea 300€

    In France and Korea, lodging is not included.

    In general, the price includes:

    • Classes and course materials
    • Accommodation (in double rooms)
    • Some meals (depending on the destinations)
    • Local pass or transportation (depending on the destinations)
    • Transportation needed for planned activities
    • Company visits scheduled during the programme
    • Some cultural and leisure activities

    In all the programmes, the price does not include:

    • Travel 
    • Health Insurance 


    Successful participation in the summer school programme allows students to obtain a certificate from the host University.

    The Prague Summer School gives credits towards an elective in your bachelor’s degree (Management and International Markets – Gestão e Mercados Internacionais).


    Q1.  How can I apply for the summer universities abroad?
    You have to submit an online application form. This registration is only a manifestation of intention and does not imply any commitment. Later on we will request to all candidates to send us a passport type photograph (blank background) as well as a motivation letter to studytrips.ibs@iscte-iul.pt

    Q2. I am not a student from Iscte Business School. Can I apply for the summer programmes?
    Yes. The summer programmes are targeted for students from the Business studies and preference will be given to IBS students. However, we will welcome students from different areas of studies and from other universities to participate in our programmes.

    Q3. Is there any scholarship or tuition waiver available to attend the summer programmes?
    No. At the moment, none of the summer programmes offers scholarships but we make efforts to keep the final price of each programme as low as possible.

    Q4. Do I need to present an English language certificate?
    No. There is no need to deliver an English language certificate (like TOEFL) but since the classes are all taught in English, it is recommended that students who apply for the summer programmes have a reasonable level of English. One of the objectives for participating in a summer school programme is to improve your English language skills.

    Q5. Which are the criteria for selecting students who will participate in the summer programmes?
    The main criteria to select the students are 1) date of application; 2) average grade 3) motivation letter 4) suitability between the level/study area of the student and the content of the courses 5) ensure the heterogeneity of all the groups placed on each destination.

    Q6. I applied last year for the summer universities but unfortunately, I was not selected. If I apply again this year, do I have an advantage in the selection process?
    Yes. Special attention will be given to students who applied for previous editions and were not placed.

    Q7. I was selected to participate in a summer university and I paid the fee but for personal reasons, I need to cancel my participation. Can I be refunded?
    Yes. If your place is taken by another participant, 80% of your payment can be refunded. For Seoul & Bordeaux please consult the relevant information of the host universities.
