Maria João Cortinhal | Dean
Maria João Cortinhal



Associate Professor in the Department of Quantitative Methods for Management and Economics at Iscte, holding various positions in academic management, including coordinator of the 3rd year of the Bachelor's degree in Management, elected member of the Scientific Council and General Council, department director, and currently director of the Iscte Business School, all at Iscte.

Her research interests focus on Combinatorial Optimization Problems, with a special emphasis on the Design of Logistics Networks and Sectorization and Route Design, using metaheuristics. She has participated as a researcher in research projects funded by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (Foundation for Science and Technology) and in some national scope research studies, notably in the definition of a logistic model for the supply of forest biomass to power plants, and in the definition of a model for expanding the national network of the Justice of the Peace Courts.

Ana Lúcia Henriques Martins | Vice-Dean for Teaching and Innovation
Ana Lucia Martins


Associate Professor at ISCTE-IUL and integrated researcher at BRU-Iscte (Business Research Unit), she has a PhD in Management with a specialisation in Operations and Technology Management and a Master's Degree in Management, with a specialisation in Strategy.

She is currently Vice-President of Iscte Business School for Teaching and Innovation and Vice-President of Iscte's Pedagogical Council. She is also Co-Director of the Master's in Humanitarian Action together with a Co-Director of the School of Sociology and Public Policy, a programme offered jointly by both schools, and in the past she held the position of Director of the Degree in Industrial Management and Logistics.

She teaches Operations Management, Logistics Management, Services and Operations Management and Value Chain Management and is the author of more than 85 scientific articles, published in scientific journals such as the International Journal of Logistics Management, International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Management and Public Money and Management, among others.

She has also authored book chapters on logistics management and lean management in justice systems. Her main research topics are operations management in humanitarian contexts, logistics management, value chain management and management in the area of services, mainly in judicial and health systems.

Inna Paiva | Vice Dean for Finance and Development
Inna Paiva


Assistant Professor in the Accounting Department at Iscte Business School and author, she has experience teaching Master's programmes and Executive Education programmes, as well as courses related to financial accounting, corporate reporting and public accounting. She has supervised several Master's dissertations and has given several presentations at international scientific conferences. In the past, she was Director of the Master's in Accounting and Taxation and the Master's in Accounting, Taxation and Auditing at Lusófona University.

Her research interests centre on the application of International Financial Reporting Standards, accounting quality and family businesses.

She is the author of several articles and book chapters and her research has been published in journals such as the Sustainability Accounting, Management and Policy Journal, the Spanish Journal of Finance and Accounting and the Review of Accounting and Finance.

Together with Margarida Liberato, she published the book Contabilidade Pública - As Novas Demonstrações para Relato em Sistema de Normalização Contabilística para as Administrações Públicas (Public Accounting - The New Statements for Reporting under the Accounting Standardisation System for Public Administrations), and is also the author of several practical case studies in the text book Fundamentos de Contabilidade Financeira: teoria e casos (Fundamentals of Financial Accounting: theory and cases).

Ana Simaens | Associate Dean for Engagement and Impact
Ana Simaens


With a PhD in Management from Tilburg University in the Netherlands, she lectures at Iscte Business School on Strategic Management and Sustainability, Ethics and Social Responsibility. She is currently Associate Dean for Engagement and Impact at Iscte Business School.

As a researcher in the Business Research Unit (BRU-Iscte), her work has appeared in various publication outlets, including the Journal of Business Ethics and Public Management Review. She has been Associate editor of the International Journal of Sustainability in Higher Education and Topic editor of Sustainability.

She is also collaborating as Guardian of the GRLI Council (Globally Responsible Leadership Initiative), Head of Programmematic Work at the PRME Iberia Chapter and serves as Quality and Sustainability Liaison for Iscte Business School. In the past, she was Deputy Director of the Marketing, Operations and General Management Department, a member of the BRU-Iscte Scientific Committee, coordinator of the Sustainability Prosperity dimension at Iscte and collaborated as an expert on ISO TC323 on the Circular Economy.

She has also complemented her academic training with various professional qualifications, including the GRI Certified Training Programme, Sustainable Business Strategy at Harvard Business School Online, and certifications as an Advanced Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO) Professional, as a LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY® Certified Facilitator and as a Pro.Play® Certified Facilitator.

Renato Pereira | Associate Dean for Internationalization and Research
Renato Pereira


Holding a postdoctoral degree in Management and two doctorates, serves as the Deputy Director for Internationalization and Research at the School of Management of Iscte-IUL.

He specializes in Entrepreneurship, Innovation, International Management, and Economic Development in Sub-Saharan Africa.

As a former resident-student of the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, he was appointed to the Board of Directors of the private foundation responsible for managing the international campus of the French capital, elected by a representative college of 5,000+ voters from 150+ nationalities.

He has worked in various companies in the information and communication technology cluster, including Outsystems, one of the first three Portuguese unicorns.

As an Administrator at Inteli - Innovation Intelligence - Innovation Center, he was part of the coordination structure of the Mobi.E consortium, responsible for the development of the world's first national network for electric vehicle charging, and the Board of Directors of SGORME - Electric Mobility Network Operations Management Company, S.A.

For thirteen consecutive years, he served as a Member of the Fiscal Council of Taguspark, S.A., the management company of one of the largest and most relevant science and technology parks in the country.

He served as Assistant to the Minister of Public Works, Transport, and Communications of the XVII and XVIII Constitutional Governments.

Currently, he directs the Master's program in International Management at the School of Management of Iscte. Previously, he directed the Executive Master's program in Innovation Management at Iscte Executive Education, as well as several curricular units of the Master's programs at the Iscte Business School, the Master's program in African Studies, and the Doctoral program in African Studies.

As an Associate Professor at the Autonomous University of Lisbon, he coordinated the Doctorate in Business Economics, the Geoeconomics Seminar of the Doctorate in International Relations, the Master's program in Business Management, and the Bachelor's program in Management, in addition to several curricular units of the three university cycles.

His article "Entrepreneurship role on dynamic capabilities: A longitudinal study on Brazilian and Portuguese firms," co-authored, was nominated for the Best Paper Prize at the Special Conference of the Strategic Management Society in 2011.

His article "Resilient employees are creative employees, when the workplace forces them to be," co-authored, was awarded the Tudor Rickards and Susan Moger Creativity and Innovation Management Best Paper Award for the year 2019.

He has supervised 5 postdoctoral researchers, 18 doctoral students, and 179 master's students.

He has extensive international academic experience, having been a Visiting Professor and/or Researcher at universities in Angola, Brazil, Czech Republic, United Arab Emirates, Slovenia, Spain, France, Hungary, India, Mozambique, Peru, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom, Russia, Thailand, Uganda, and Uzbekistan.
