Sustainability is one of the greatest challenges of our time, and its effective management increasingly requires a data-driven approach. The 3rd edition of the Sustainability Summit puts the spotlight on the power of data-driven decision-making, with a special focus on gender equality and social impact.
Under the theme Data-Driven Sustainability: Gender Equality and Impact, this event brings together experts, academics, and industry leaders to explore how data analysis and insights can drive gender equity, shape more effective policies, and generate measurable and sustainable impact for organizations and society.
Join us for a day of discussions, insights, and networking, where innovation and sustainability come together to shape a more just and sustainable future.
This event co-organized by the Iscte Business School and Iscte Sustainability, with the support of the student groups of Management (NEG), Marketing (NAMI), Economics (NAE), Data Science (NED), Industrial Management and Logistics (NAGIL), Human Resources (NERH) and Finance and Accounting (NEFC), together with Iscte Trading & Investment Club (ITIC) and Iscte Junior Consulting (IJC) organizations, will take place on the week of March 31st, 2025.

Get ready for the 1st Iscte Business School Datathon Challenge
It's going to be 8 hours of creativity, sustainability and data which could win you an internship at Avanade!
As part of the Iscte Business School Sustainability Summit, the 8-hour Marathon of Data and Innovation has arrived – the Datathon!
- The challenge will take place on March 31st, from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. To participate, students must form teams of 3 to 4 members and respond to a challenge presented on the day itself, applying their creative and analytical skills over 8 hours in a dedicated space provided by Iscte.
- On April 3rd, each team will present their project through a Pitch to a panel of expert judges, consisting of members from academia and organizations related to the competition’s theme.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, with the 1st place winner receiving an internship at Avanade, along with other prizes.

This event is open to the entire academic community. Students from undergraduate, master's, and PhD programs from Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon’s five schools, as well as from other Higher Education Institutions, are welcome to participate. However, at least one team member must be from Iscte Business School.

Short BIOS:
Maria Tolentino is currently the Country Director (Portugal) at Too Good To Go - the largest app in the fight against food waste in the world. This app connects users with thousands of partners who sell their daily surplus food at lower prices to prevent it from going to waste. Maria Tolentino built her career in operations and business development - moving from a more corporate environment such as BNP Paribas, to the context of technological start-ups such as Landing.Jobs. For more than 4 years, he also developed management and strategy skills there, serving as Head of Portugal and Director of Global Operations. In 2022, he joined Too Good To Go and its important mission to fight food waste, where he has already held the positions of Head of Success and Head of Indie Partners.
Mónica Santos Silva is the Manager of Global Citizenship projects and agent of social transformation. She has a degree in International Relations from ISCSP-UL. She has a postgraduate degree in Peace and War Studies from the Autonomous University of Lisbon and is studying for a master's degree in Educational Sciences - Specialising in Education and Community Development.

Marta Brazão has a degree in Social Work from ISCSP - University of Lisbon and a Master's degree in Environmental and Sustainability Studies from ISCTE. She has been working at Circular Economy Circular for 8 years, promoting the concept of the circular economy, especially in implementing projects that promote sharing, repair and reuse. She is also dedicated to developing and coordinating activities and courses on the subject for different audiences. She is also a member of the LIDERA Community. She is currently studying for a PhD in Engineering and Management at the Instituto Superior Técnico.
Helena Antónia Silva is Law graduate with a postgraduate degree in Entrepreneurship and Social Innovation, creator and head of the circular economy brand Vintage for a Cause and the women's empowerment programme From Granny To Trendy, co-founder of Between Parallels - Association for Sustainable Development, alumni of IES - Social Business School, with whom she collaborates as a trainer and mentor, alumni of the European Social Innovation Academy, honoured by the Yves Rocher Foundation in 2020 as part of the Terre de Femmes Award, recently included in the list of TOP 100 Woman in Social Enterprise by the European Commission's EUCLID NETWORK and with the ACTIVA award from Activa Magazine Inspiring Women 2021.

Elisa Nobre, a native of Vila Franca de Xira, started at the age of 12 by unpicking her clothes and recreating them to learn how to sew. At 13, she started working at the Copacabana swimsuit factory, where she improved her skills. She has a long history of working on television, in programs such as "Dança Comigo", "The Voice" and "Globos de Ouro".
Fátima Bibes, a native of Redondo, discovered her passion for sewing at the age of 12 when she saw her mother sewing. She learned from videos and later honed her skills with seamstress Elisa Nobre. She specializes in making costumes for dance schools and is also known for making Miss Queen Portugal 2023's dress.

Short BIO:
Catarina Roseta-Palma is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at ISCTE-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa. She was Iscte's Director of Sustainability from 2018 to 2022. Her main research interests are in natural resource management, especially water, and in environmental policy. She worked as a consultant with Regional Water Boards (ARH Alentejo and Algarve) and INAG (Portuguese Water Authority), as well as the Portuguese Environment Ministry and the European Commission. She was in the Portuguese Commission for Green Fiscal Reform (2014). She is a member of the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, in whose conferences she regularly participates, and where she was elected EAERE Council Member for the period 2010-2013 (vice-president for 2012-2013). Among others, she is also in the Iberian Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (AERNA), where she was a member of the Board in 2005-2011. She has taught Environmental and Natural Resource Economics and Microeconomics at the undergraduate as well as graduate level. She is also involved in executive education programs in the area of Sustainability.

In collaboration with Associação CAIS

On the last day of the event, registration for the Business Case – Associação Cais was opened. This contest is about a challenge faced by Associação Cais – a Social Solidarity Association whose mission is to contribute to the overall improvement of the living conditions of homeless, socially and economically vulnerable people in situations of deprivation, exclusion and risk. The challenge is to create the 30th Anniversary Event for Associação CAIS. The specific objectives of this challenge will be shared by email to the registered teams.
Who can take part? Teams of Bachelor's and/or Master's students.
What is the contest language? Portuguese.
How many members can each team have? Teams must have a minimum of 2 members and a maximum of 4 members.
How is it going to work?
On 06/11/2023 all the members of each team will receive an email with information about the Business Case and the criteria for evaluating it. The teams will have 15 days to respond. The response must be sent in a set of slides in PDF format (there are no restrictions on the number of slides or specific formatting) to the following email address (sustainability.summit.ibs@iscte-iul.pt) by 23:59 on 20/11/2023.
What is the deadline for resolving the Business Case? November 6th – November 20th (15 days).
Who will be the jury? The jury will be made up of one member from each of the following organizations: Iscte Business School, Associação CAIS, Iscte Junior Consulting (IJC) and the Núcleo de Estudantes de Finanças e Contabilidade do Iscte (NEFC).
